First release of a Lacuna Chardonnay from Curly Flat since the 2013 vintage. Lacuna Chardonnay is essentially an unoaked style, though with this 2017 release 15% sees neutral oak (and this same 15% is allowed to go through mlf).
This is a lean, long style in desperate need of either a) extra time in bottle or b) a good stint in a decanter. It’s beautifully textured and structured but it needs time for the flesh to build, and indeed the flavour. It’s there, it’s coming. There’s a gorgeous saline/lactose character here; it just needs some patience. White peach is the mainstay. I almost overlooked this wine at first but every time I came back to it things had improved for the better.
